Neuron to Embed uAvionix PingStation3 in Ground Based Detect and Avoid network

Today announced that Neuron Innovations Ltd, developers of a ground based Detect and Avoid network to accelerate the adoption of automated and autonomous vehicles, has started deploying uAvionix PingStation3 in ‘drone zones’ in the UK, to expand their wider surveillance system allowing manned and unmanned aircraft to fly in the same airspace.
uAvionix PingStation3, as well as PingStation2 and 1 have been integrated with Neuron’s surveillance APIs and are contributing to the Neuron ecosystem. Several PingStation3 units are being deployed at Cranfield and Llanbedr airports to allow BVLOS zones to be created which are powered by Neuron’s surveillance and tracking synchronization service

PingStation3 is a dual-band ADS-B receiver (978MHz UAT and 1090MHz) with built in GPS that allows the reception of ADS-B targets as far as 200+ miles away. PingStation3, delivers ASTERIX CAT 021 message formats, for global compatibility with air traffic management standards as well as additional formats to support integration with any display system or data logger. A low cost IP67 weatherproof design and a simple installation in an all-in-one unit makes the deployment of PingStation3 quick and easy for larger scale projects such as Neuron’s.

“Neuron is very happy to work with uAvionix to help in establishing a recognized air picture for drone operators”, said Niall Greenwood, CCO and Head of Marketing for Neuron. “We integrate their and other surveillance sensors and run network nodes. This inclusive approach has attracted significant interest from partners around the World and we are demonstrating this solution to help the healthcare industry in Project MediDrone”

“uAvionix increasingly sees use cases for PingStation3 in Detect and Avoid and the integration of manned and unmanned aircraft”, said Christian Ramsey, President of uAvionix. “With the growing adoption of both UAT and 1090 in the UK for Electronic Conspicuity, a single receiver such as PingStation3 could provide a holistic air picture for DAA for cooperative targets through systems such as Neuron’s. The uAvionix ecosystem helps best in class designs such as Belugadrone meet the demands of professional users and will significantly enhance the ability to obtain safety and operational approvals for all its envisioned use cases.”

About Neuron

Neuron provides decentralised networks that connect smart transportation systems and infrastructure to ensure safe, secure and fair access. Neuron is a London-based technology company that provides data services into the aviation sector. Neuron’s groundbreaking surveillance technology uses sensor networks to provide real-time situational awareness of airspace traffic. Neuron’s technology is integrated with some of the leading drone manufacturers from around the world. This allows Neuron’s customers to fly their drones safely beyond the visual line of sight of the pilot. Neuron is working with Innovate UK in projects looking at how their technology can be integrated with cargo, delivery and inspection drones, air taxis and within live airport environments. About uAvionix Corporation

uAvionix was founded in 2015 with the mission of bringing safety solutions to the unmanned aviation industry to aid in the integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). A fundamental principle of that mission is to provide solutions that allow all airspace users a common situational awareness of the airspace. Through the evolution of our company, we pioneered and now offer low SWaP TSO certified and uncertified ADS-B and GPS solutions for General Aviation (GA), Airport Surface Vehicles and the UAS markets. Based in Bigfork, MT and Leesburg, VA, uAvionix consists of an unparalleled engineering and management team with a unique combination of experience within avionics, surveillance, airport services, UAS aircraft development, radio frequency (RF), and semiconductor industries. The entire leadership team consists of pilots of fixed wing, rotary wing, and UAS aircraft. uAvionix is owned by DC Capital Partners.
